Celebrity Q&A:

What’s the nerdiest thing about you?

Well, I was always on the more studious side in school: President of the Beta Club, Editor of the Newspaper, President of my Jr and Sr classes. On the athletic side, my grandfather used to say about me as a little boy that I was the only kid he ever saw that could be standing perfectly still and have both feet fly out from under him LOL. Luckily – give the roles I’ve played – my coordination and physicality improved with age

What character from pop culture do you identify with?

I guess I would have to say the Flash, specifically Barry Allen —because I’ve been associated with the franchise for so long, I’ve looked at the character as himself, his own worst enemy (Zoom in Batman The Brave and the Bold) his father Henry Allen and his mentor, Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick. So I feel like I know him pretty well. And what I know I like —just a good guy trying to do the right thing —his heart is always in the right place and his head is just trying to keep up.

What are you nostalgic for?

Opera and music, and big formal opening nights. Having been originally a Voice Performance Major in the Opera Theatre Dept at Indiana University Bloomington, and having studied piano since before my 4th birthday, music is really what I love the most and in many ways know the most about, even though acting has been my career path.

What inspires you?

Music, obviously, a brilliant acting performance in which there is truth being passed from heart to heart on the stage. I love the country, the mountains and the seashore, and houses where I can’t see my neighbors from my yards. There is something about the solitude of nature that is healing. Living mostly in NYC, surrounded by everything man-made, it’s makes one right-sized to be in the presence off beauty created by God or Spirit or Higher Power or whatever one chooses to call it.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

One of the great thing about being an artist is that everything you see, do think and feel is connected in some way to your work- the good and the bad. Acting is a wonderful exploration of human behavior, and you never know when your’e going to have an experience that serves as the basis, or as a tool, for the next role I play.

How do you stay sane?

Arguably, and if you ask my family and friends, quite often I don’t haha! Just the simple fact of having to look at so many pictures of myself at various states and ages during a 40+ year career is enough to drive me mad if I let it. As Joni Mitchell so beautifully wrote “Something’s lost, but somethings gained, in living every day” That’s why I hate these Now and Then pictures. It makes me not want to go to the beach anymore, with so many cell phones around! But it all works out, because unlike earlier in my career, I get paid to keep my clothes on rather than take them off at this stage of the game 😉
