September 11, 2020 GalaxyCon Minneapolis 2020 Covid-19 UPDATE
Due to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic GalaxyCon Minneapolis is being canceled. We believe strongly that it is the best interests of public safety to hold off on hosting any large scale events until the COVID-19 virus is under control.
We know that many will be disappointed by this decision, as we were all looking forward to spending a weekend together celebrating our favorite fandoms, meeting new people, reconnecting with old friends, and having incredible experiences. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for us to make. GalaxyCon is a small business run by a core team of 14 passionate individuals that work 365 days a year to put on events for fans like you. Canceling an event like GalaxyCon not only affects us and our fans, but our exhibitors, artists, volunteers, show staff, and community partners.
We have been advocating with the city of Minneapolis and The Minneapolis Convention Center for some time now to give us permission to cancel, and they have finally done so. We have felt that it is important to cancel as soon as possible so attendees, exhibitors, and guests would not be planning for an event that was not going to happen. We’d like to thank those of you who have sent emails to city and convention center officials to help make this happen sooner than was expected.
We are currently in the process of informing all our guests, partners, vendors, and exhibitors that a decision to cancel has been made. We will begin the process of refunding everyone for their ticket purchases next week. This process will be done automatically, so you don’t have to do anything. Once we authorize the refund it will take up to 14 days for the refund to hit your account based on your bank or credit card. We will be contacting exhibitors directly with options of refunds or credit towards our other events.
Once we process your refund you will receive an email from our ticketing partner GrowTix. If you do not see an email by the end of next week, please check your spam folder as it may end up there. Our customer service team will be more than happy to assist at any time, but please be patient with us as we deal with this situation. We ask that you wait until Monday, September 21 before contacting us for any updates on a refund, as we will be working all of next week on this process.
We do not have a future date for GalaxyCon Minneapolis scheduled and do not expect to make a decision in the near future. We will be exploring all options of potential venues and cities in the region before making a decision, and we want to make sure we can guarantee the health, safety, and security of our attendees, exhibitors, and guests.
In the meantime, we are hosting virtual events with celebrities and voice actors on a weekly basis at www.galaxycon.com featuring Q&A’s, virtual one-on-one chats for fans and talent, autographs, and more. We look forward to serving you virtually until we are able to gather in public once more!
Please see the above statement about ticket refunds.
All Hotel Reservations made through the GalaxyCon partnership with Meet Minneapolis will be cancelled, but you may also wish to verify this directly with the hotels.
